Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about Cura.

Yes. The Cura app is completely free to download and use. You can run stopwatch or timer sessions, set up automated schedules, track daily goals, and use all analytics features at no cost. If you want a personal Cura Block for physical commitment at home, that’s a separate purchase — see the Shop page for details.

Every user gets 5 Emergency Unblock credits included in the app. Tap the button and your focus session ends immediately — regardless of how far you are from a Cura Station. If you need more, additional credits are available for CHF 10 (5 credits). The price is deliberately set to create real friction so the feature is only used when genuinely needed.

Cura uses Apple’s parental controls system — the same one families trust to manage children’s devices. There is no “ignore for 15 minutes” button. The only ways to end a focus session are: tapping your Cura Station or Block, using an Emergency Unblock credit, or revoking Screen Time permissions deep in iOS Settings — which Cura deliberately does not surface in the app.

Your focus sessions, blocking profiles, and analytics are all stored on your device and in your iCloud — never on our servers. Cura does not have access to your personal data. We use a backend service for user authentication only.

A Cura Station is a wall-mounted device placed at institutions like libraries and universities — free for the institution to host. A Cura Block is a personal, portable device that you can take anywhere — your desk, a coffee shop, or wherever you work. Both use the same physical commitment mechanism: tap to start, tap to end.

No. You can run manual stopwatch or timer sessions, set up automated schedules, track daily goals, and use all analytics features without any hardware. Cura Stations and Blocks add the physical commitment — making it much harder for those apps to pull you back in — but the app works fully on its own.

Any app or website on your iPhone. You can pick apps individually, by category, or both. For websites, you can block specific domains. Each blocking profile supports up to 50 apps and 50 categories.

Yes. Once a focus session is active, it stays active even when the Cura app is closed. You’ll see a live status on your Lock Screen and Dynamic Island showing your session in real time.

Not yet. Cura is currently available on iPhone only. An Android version is planned — join the waitlist on the Shop page or follow us on social media to be the first to know.

Cura Blocks are not yet available for purchase. You can join the waitlist on the Shop page to be notified as soon as they are ready to ship. Pricing will be announced at that time.
